It features lifelike train cars, a powerful headlight, a digital steam whistle, and a color scheme that matches the train featured in the Polar Express book and movie adaptation. The die-cast metal locomotive body is highly detailed, complete with engineer and fireman figures, and is reassuringly heavy, as are the other train cars. With a few drops of the included formula, the locomotive can produce puffs of smoke.Easy Setup and Transformer OperationDesigned for easy use, the Polar Express Train Set features a powerful maintenance-free motor. For out-of-the-box operation, it comes complete with a CW-80 transformer to control forward, reverse, and neutral operation. The eight curved and three straight FasTrack track pieces fit together with the FasTrack terminal section to create a 40-by-60-inch oval (W x L), and the train cars connect to create a 46-3/4-inch long train. While instructions are hardly needed for connecting the track pieces together and arranging the train cars, they did come in handy for explaining the smoke function and best practices for operation. It should be noted that, despite following the instructions, very little smoke emits from the locomotive, even when operating at full speed. Another minor disappointment was the train whistle, which had a somewhat artificial sound. Despite these drawbacks, the train set still provides an enjoyable experience that the whole family can share in.1.) Make sure the smoke on/off switch is in the “on” position.2.) Make sure 5-7 drops of smoke fluid was added to the smoke stack3.) Make sure to blow down the stack to remove and any meniscus that may have formed around the top opening of the smoke unit4.) The train must be operated at 2/3 to full throttle for the smoke element to get warm enough to convert the fluid into vapor and have smoke ejected from the smoke stack.
