From the Manufacturer 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Hot Melt Adhesive 3779 Q is an amber color, high performance thermoplastic adhesive with strong resistance to heat, impact, fuel, oil, and is effective for use in electronic applications such as potting and wire tacking. It is composed of 100% solids, thermoplastic resin in 8″ stick form for use with 3M Scotch-Weld™ Hot Melt Applicator PG TC Q and EC. The 8″ stick will produce up to 20 linear feet of 1/8″ bead and the special ribbed contour prevents slippage to provide reliable, consistent feed-through when used on applicators with the Quadrack convertor. Its 25 second open time, along a 1/8″ bead, is sufficient for positioning and adjusting for fit and supports high-tempo productivity for assembling, joining, attaching, securing, repairing, panel bonding, bundling, sealing, encapsulating, rigidizing, foam bonding, gluing, packaging, adhering and closing. 3M Scotch-Weld Hot Melt Adhesive 3779 Q will also bond wood, polyolefins such as polyethylene and polypropylene, corrugated boxes, and lightweight substrates on furniture, upholstery and novelties and meets specifications for UL 94 Listing VO. Product InformationViscosity (cps) 7000@375°F/190°C Melt Point 325°F/163°C Open Time 25 sec Heat Resistance 300°F/149°C Peel Strength 18 PIW (lbs Per Inch of Width, on canvas) Shear Strength 700 PSI (Douglas Fir) Hot melt adhesives/hot-glue sticks have a relatively hot melting point that ranges between approximately 250-3800F/121-1960C, depending on the formulation, and are applied with hot-melt applicators, commonly referred to as hot-glue guns. Hot-melt glues provide a nearly instant bond between many plastics, paper and wood, but when the bond is reheated, some varieties will soften, allowing the bonded surfaces to be separated. The quick-stick nature of hot-melt adhesives speeds up operations in packaging and production.Low melt adhesives/ hot-glue sticks have a relatively low melting point that ranges between approximately 170 – 2500F/76 – 1210C, depending on the formulation, and are applied with low-temperature applicators, commonly referred to as hot-glue guns. Low-melt adhesives are beneficial in that they can be used to bond heat sensitive materials such as foam and a range of plastics. They provide a nearly instant bond but when the bond is reheated, some varieties will soften, allowing the bonded surfaces to be separated. The aggressive hot tack nature of low-melt adhesives speeds up production and assembly operations that involve light gage metals, some plastics, and other non-fibrous materials in addition to building display boards, floral displays, and hobby projects. These adhesives are also used in manufacturing, assembly and packaging processes, window, door, construction, transportation, electronics, and other industries, as well as in woodworking, assembling building store displays, convention sample boards, trophies, novelties, upholstery, furniture, audio components, and cabinets.About 3M Industrial Adhesives and Tapes For more than a century, 3M has applied innovation and technology to improving our customers’ lives and supporting their business goals.
